If you want to watch the ball drop tonight in New York City’s Times Square you have some options.
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest will be co-hosted this year by Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and include performances by Bastille, Christina Aguilera, Dan and Shay and New Kids on the Block.
The festivities officially kick off at 8pm on ABC. If you don’t have cable, you have a few options for how to catch the show:
If you own a television, then you can tune into ABC for free over-the-air, provided you have a digital antenna.
If you own a TV and don’t have a digital antenna, make a New Year’s resolution to snag one. You can get a basic HD antenna from Amazon $10, and fancier ones from Amazon and a zillion other retailers for not much more. Do yourself a favor and buy one for times like these.
YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now
If you don’t own a television, then you’ll have to stream the big event on a laptop or other web-connected device. YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now all offer both ABC and cost $40-$45/month.
ABC is available in most markets with all of those, but there are a few exceptions. Before signing up make sure ABC is available on the platform you choose in your specific area. SlingTV is the only major TV streaming service without ABC.
All of the streaming services offer free trials, so if you haven’t used them before you can sign up today and watch the ball drop for free and then cancel your account before you’re being charged.
